Goblin Plot to burn Lindon Forest Foiled!

Earlier this year, the goblins of the Shargroar tribe had been split into two factions: those following Shargrór, and those following Slagwort. At some time during the summer, however, Shargrór and Slagwort have apparently reconciled their differences, and now they are again working together. This apparently resulted in a plan to burn down the Lindon Forest!
Recently goblins that were captured by the citizens of Lindall revealed the news that Shargrór and Slagwort were again working together, and it seemed like some new evil plan was in the works. However, just what that evil plan was did not come to light until the Sunday of the September gathering, when smoke was seen off to the south of the town of Lindall.
Many townsfolk, led by the Baroness, went to investigate the source of the smoke, and they discovered a large force of goblins in the woods bearing torches, attempting to set fire to the forest.
Recognizing the danger, the townsfolk surged forward to slay the goblins. The battle was long and grueling in the hot sun, and the goblins managed to start several fires. However, due to the valiant efforts of the adventurers of Lindall, none of the fires went out of control and the goblin plan was foiled. Rapid action by the many healers of Lindall ensured that none of the citizens who fell in the battle died and needed to be resurrected.

Andarias returns to claim the Barony

Ever since ex-Sorcerer Haven rifted Knight Legatus Andarias Dardanos out of Lindall in June, the location of the Knight Legatus was unknown.
Regardless of where he went, however, he returned to Lindall this gathering, on Saturday afternoon. Backed by a platoon of his soldiers from the 11th Stephanos Infantry Regiment, he arrived at the edge of town, demanding to meet Baroness Lanthlidis on the field of battle.
His men were arrayed in line of battle, and the Knight Legatus stood in front. When the Baroness arrived at the field, the her two knights Dame Lydia and Sir Jaden, and the adventurers of Lindall behind her, Sir Andarias demanded that Lanthlidis renounce her claim for the Barony of Dardanos. The Baroness refused, and then Sir Andarias began to list the crimes that he claimed she had committed, ranging from High Treason to the Summoning of Elementals. Baroness Lanthlidis denied responsibility for any of these crimes, and claimed that Sir Andarias was in fact the one committing treason, and summoning Elementals.
In response to this Sir Andarias denounced the Baroness and ordered his soldiers to attack. The platoon of soldiers, outnumbered by the adventurers, smashed into them. Sir Andarias traded a few blows with Baroness Lanthlidis until he was forced to back off by gas poisons thrown at him by Minnin, and a Bind spell by Apprentice Dante Brightmantle of the Lindall Royal Arcanum. Sir Andarias then assisted one of his own soldiers by felling Kyril Flamebeard with a single blow. He then attacked Chandra Dawnfire, the force of his attack driving her to the ground, but she was saved by her Magic Armor spell. Taking advantage of his inattention, Minnin got behind the Knight Legatus and smashed him on the back of the helm with the pommel of his sword, knocking him unconscious.
The battle continued to rage as Minnin, with the help of the hobling Dapple T. Wyzenhymer, dragged the knight’s body away from the field of battle. The soldiers continued to fight the adventurers of Lindall even after their leader had fallen, but, outnumbered and separated, the adventurers of Lindall began to destroy them in detail.
Then at some point during the battle, Sir Jaden delivered a killing blow to a fallen soldier. The other soldiers, upon seeing this, began screaming "Treachery!" and accusing the knight of breaking the Terms of War. Back in May, Sir Andarias dispatched Vintenar Rylan Cresos to discuss terms of war with Baroness Lanthlidis. One of the terms agreed upon was that no fallen combatant would be delivered a killing blow. The apparent breaking of this term angered Sir Andarias’ soldiers greatly, causing them to attack with renewed ferocity. However, the adventurers of Lindall were able to break up their attack and defeat them. One by one the soldiers fell, until Vintenar Rylan Cresos was the last one standing. Vintenar Rylan Cresos was subsequent captured.
Meanwhile, Minnin and Dapple dragged the unconscious Knight Legatus to a cabin, where Minnin kept him unconscious until the Baroness would arrive.
Once it was discovered that several of Andarias’ soldiers were going to resurrect, either because they were specifically killed or allowed to die without receiving healing, Minnin moved Andarias’ body to the Circle of Light. At length the Baroness arrived with many adventurers. Andarias’ other soldiers were incarcerated by the Baroness in a Warded building.
Baroness Lanthlidis searched the Knight Legatus, and discovered a letter on him, supposedly from Duke Rogal Stephanos. The letter granted Sir Andarias the support of the Duke in his bid for the barony, and directed him to arrest and detain the Baroness for crimes of treason and the Summoning of Elementals. The Baroness was surprised by this, for she had received a letter from Duke Rogal Stephanos that was identical in all ways except one: In her letter, the Baroness Lanthlidis was the one receiving support from the Duke, and in it she was directed to arrest and detain Sir Andarias.
The Baroness decided to weaken Sir Andarias by striking him several times, so he could be subdued easily if he became violent when he woke up. She then cured him, and began speaking to him, trying to explain to them that fighting was pointless, as somehow they were getting bad information. She offered to travel with him directly to speak with the Duke directly about the matter. Andarias appeared impassive, looking off into space, but when presented with the letters, he snatched them from the Baroness’ hands and looked at them. It appeared that the Baroness was failing to get through to him, and she began speaking to Dame Lydia. While she was distracted, Sir Andarias shimmered and vanished. His empty uniform and clothes settled on the ground. How he escaped in this manner is not known by The Lindall Times, but it is suspected that some ritual had been cast upon him that allowed him to escape.
Baroness Lanthlidis was not pleased at his departure. Rather than upset at her cousin, however, she seemed to be more resigned to the fact that he would not listen to her.
The current location of Sir Andarias, or his plans, are at this time unknown.

Sir Jaden stripped of his Knighthood

During the battle with Sir Andarias’ soldiers, Sir Jaden broke one of the Terms of War that had been agreed upon by the Baroness and the representative of Sir Andarias. That rule was that he was not to deliver a killing blow to any combatant. Sir Jaden, either forgetting this rule, or perhaps ignoring it, killed the soldier in front of many witnesses. Sir Andarias’ soldiers screamed "Treachery!" at this, and moved to attack Sir Jaden, but were in turn cut down by adventurers of Lindall.
As a result of this incident, the Baroness publicly removed Sir Jaden of his knightly title, but allowed him to remain a member of the Household, his new title remaining Lord. Lord Jaden, although still allowed to wear the baronial colors, has chosen not to do so as he feels he has dishonored House Dardanos.

Bandits take over Lindall!

During forum on the Saturday afternoon of the gathering, a scout named Ian, who had been hired by the Baroness, arrived at the forum circle and presented himself to the Baroness.
Ian told the Baroness that he had discovered the location of a large bandit encampment, where he had seen “dozens” of bandits. Careful to memorize the location and taking pains to avoid being seen, Ian left the area and ran back to Lindall to inform the Baroness. The Baroness indicated that she would lead an attack on the camp, bringing along anyone who would volunteer to go, and many of the adventurers of Lindall took up the call. Ian then respectfully suggested to the Baroness that they wait until after nightfall, so that they might be able to sneak up on the bandits and take the camp by surprise.
The Baroness agreed, and organized the adventurers who would accompany her at the Forum Circle after dark. Ian returned to lead them to the encampment.
The full moon was again high in the sky, occasionally obscured by clouds, as some twenty adventurers quietly made their way through the woods.
Nearing the location of the encampment, the adventurers split into two groups, so that they might hit the bandit camp from two directions at once.
Ian and the adventurers Wick and Dolan moved ahead to get a closer look at the encampment, and were startled to find it completely abandoned. Apparently the bandits had found out about the impending attack, and evacuated before the Baroness and the adventurers arrived.
Wick and Dolan ran off toward one group of adventurers, while Ian told the other. Both groups quickly made their way back through the forest to return to the town.
Once there, they found that the town had been attacked by bandits. Several townsfolk and adventurers who had been left behind, including Kostantinos, Naoko Ohmi, Sudupta, and Lira were all rendered unconscious and robbed.
Soon after the returning adventurers moved cautiously into town, and began to retake it from the bandits, who up to this point were moving freely about town. Many bandits were killed, while some others tried to pass themselves off as townsfolk. One managed to hit the Baroness with a Prison spell. The angry townsfolk spent the next hour cleaning out the town of any remaining bandits.
In addition to the multiple thefts and robberies, the baronial manor house was also robbed, despite that fact that it was Warded. It is suspected that a bandit managed to hide inside the manor house when the Ward was being cast. As a safety precaution, both Lord Jaden and Dame Lydia were given Enslavement antidotes.

Ghost of Caldarian Knight Laid to Rest

Although Candle Dark is several weeks away, the people of Lindall have their first ghost story of the season to tell. During the monthly Forum, the confused ghost of what was later discovered to be a former Knight and member of the Order of the Golden Flame, a Dame Cathryn Kregos, visited citizens on the eve of the Forum. If this information is correct, the human Knight was buried over one hundred years ago.
The ghost appeared to be looking for an unidentified woman named Anna, and had been mistaking the female citizens of Lindall as the person she was seeking. The Knights spirit appeared to be completely intangible and unable to effect the physical world at all. Several of the citizens apparently offered to help the spirit, though it disappeared shortly thereafter.
The ghost was to return again the next day and seemed frantic for help. It moved into an area of the Flux and several local adventurers followed before the Flux closed. Events on the other side of the Flux have not been confirmed, but it is believed that the brave adventurers were taken somewhere in Vestria and were able to place the spirit of the Knight to rest.

Undead Attacks Continue

Beneath the brilliant full moon at the first night of the gathering, the citizens of Lindall faced yet another attack. These undead also seemed bent on seizing downed citizens and dragging them away from town. Making their stand by the Forum Circle, the gallant citizens of Lindall were able to hold their ground and beat off the undead attack.

Azure F.O.G. Saves Local Farm!

"We would not have survived without them," says Polla Kinoki, the Raven Kin owner of the Black Bar farm outside of the Lindon Forest "Broken Circle bandits attacked our farm, and would have taken everything if it weren’t for the Azure F.O.G. We are eternally grateful."
Last week, a large force of bandits surrounded her farm, which has been one of the only farms able to produce squash this year. They took Polla’s son, James, hostage, threatening to kill him if she did not give them all of her seeds for next year’s crop. "They said if I didn’t hand them over that they would kill us all and take them anyways. I was terrified."
It was then, she said that she saw an Elven man wearing a blue hood sneaking up behind the bandits. Soon, she says, a dozen more people, of all races, in blue hoods came out and attacked the bandits, killing them. Only one of the bandits permanently died, but Polla’s farm was now secured.
The Azure F.O.G. stayed for a week’s time, helping to reinforce the wall around her farm, and repairing the gate that the bandits had destroyed. While we were not able to contact this group of the Azure F.O.G. for comment, we do know that they are a part of the group started in Lindall by a group of the adventuring class.
The Azure F.O.G. around Lindall has been helping on numerous farms, and aiding Baroness Lanthlidis in her quest to settle the dispute over her title with her cousin, Sir Legatus Andarias Dardanos. They have been a driving force in the southern parts of Dardanos, giving many of the farmers and merchants hope for the future. It is rumored that more sections of this group have been spotted helping in the northern parts of Dardanos as well.

Ellsworth DeMarco appointed Sorcerer of the Royal Arcanum

At the beginning of the summer Sorcerer a’Thales Haven of the Lindall Royal Arcanum committed the most heinous crime of Summoning Elementals, and he has been dismissed from the Royal Arcanum, his rank removed. He is still at large, and if captured, he is to be tried on charges of treason and the summoning of elementals.
This, of course, left the Lindall Royal Arcanum without leadership. However, in recognition of Seneschal Ellsworth DeMarco’s past service to the Royal Arcanum, the Arcanum has appointed DeMarco to the position of Sorcerer of the Lindall Arcane Hall. As a consequence of taking on this role, DeMarco has been relieved of his duties as Seneschal to Baroness Lanthlidis Dardanos.
We at The Lindall Times wish Sorcerer DeMarco the best of luck in his new position.

Lindall visited by a Nykian Lord

On Saturday of the September gathering, the capital of Dardanos was visited by Sir Ansari Arash Nykia, a noble knight of the Household of Nykia. The Lindall Times did not question the good Knight the purpose of his visit, but we extend our most cordial greetings to all the nobles of Caldaria who may choose to grace our fair barony with their presence.

Baroness’s Birthday Celebrated With Song and Dance

During this past gathering for Forum, it was discovered that it was the Baroness’s birthday. Her birthday, and others were celebrated first with cake in the tavern, and then with song and dance around the fire in Lindall.
Vree taught the people of Lindall how to dance together, and drummers provided music to dance to. Marra also sang for the people of Lindall, and much merriment was had. A few kobolds tried to ruin the mirth, but was quickly taught a lesson in why not to attend parties to which you are not invited. Gnazz tried to negotiate with the kobolds, but unfortunately, each kobold that attacked needed to be taken down with force or rendered unconscious.
Also celebrated was the Ansconi holiday of the Harvest Festival. Dame Lydia Menathenia brought with her bottles of wine from the Eleytherian Forest which many enjoyed thoroughly, and some required spells and potions to purify their blood of the strong wine.

Local High-Orcs Seek to Become Squires

Two High Orc adventurers from Lindall have expressed interest in becoming Squires. Gnazz and Gormegil, two adventurers from the Azure F.O.G. have both begun the steps towards Squireship. Gnazz is currently receiving training in reading, writing, and other skills required to become a Squire from Dame Lydia Menathenia. Gormegil has asked the Baroness to help him learn what he must to become a Squire as well, although he was not present in Lindall to receive training. Both will need several months of training before being considered for Squires, but both seem willing to put in the effort needed.

Local Boy Presumed Permanently Dead

Risto Markal, the boy lost in April of this year, is now presumed to be permanently dead. He had wandered off late one evening, headed towards Lindall, but never returned. A Barony-wide search was launched by the boy’s Uncle and extended family, but all of their leads fell cold after a month. It is presumed that the boy wandered off in a plague-induced hallucination, as the boy’s parents had recently died of the plague. It is presumed that he died of the plague far from his home, and permanently died.
If his body is recovered by anyone, his family is requesting that it be returned to the Markal family farm, outside of Lindall. The boy is human, light haired, with fair skin, and blue eyes. He was six years old, but tall for his age. He had a fascination with arms and armor, so he might be found with broken pieces of armor or weaponry in his pockets.

Orphaned Girl Finds Home

Janni, an orphaned young traveler to Lindall has found a home. Dame Lydia Menathenia has made arrangements for the child to live with her husband and wife in the Lindon Forest until such time as Dame Lydia’s daughter, Khelia, can bring her back to her home in the Barony of Phylon.
Dame Lydia was touched by the young girl’s story of losing her parents, and decided to do whatever she could to help the young lass. "She’s only fourteen, and she still has much to learn. I am honored to get to help her on her way to becoming a scholar. My daughter is planning on sending Janni to school, where Janni can perfect her writing and author the book on Caldaria she so wishes to write."
Janni seems quite happy with her new family, and is looking forward to all she will learn. "The Menathenias are very very nice people. They’re going to teach me how to use magic and write a really good story. I like them a lot."
Best wishes to you, Janni, and Khelia Menathenia.

News From Around the Kingdom

Castle Phedron: News of His Majesty’s recovery from the plague has brought about a great influx of Nobility into the capital, all seeking to resume the politics of running the kingdom. His Majesty has reportedly resumed holding court and will be addressing the backlog of Royal concerns over the next several months.
The Lindall Times will be sure to report upon any Royal decrees as soon as they are made known to the people.
Atharos: Local authorities are investigating the disappearance of nearly fifty local farmers from the village of Steadwick. Local Knights report that the village appears to have been attacked, although no spirits of the local citizens have attempted to resurrect, and no bodies have been found.
Alexios: The young Lord, and future Duke, Marcus Alexios celebrates his twelfth birthday this month. Celebrations will be held throughout the month.

The Plague Report

For the first time in several months, the Lindall times is happy to publish a very short plague report. Throughout the Barony of Dardanos only a handful of plague-related deaths have been reported, with no known permanent deaths throughout the Barony this month! This marks the first month in several years that permanent deaths have not been reported by the Order of Light as a result of the plague.
Throughout Caldaria the effects of the plague continue to decline, although death and illness because of its effects are still being reported throughout the lands. The Lindall times continues to urge citizens to bring those suffering from the plague to their local Order of Light.

This Moon’s Forecast

By Dame Lydia Menathenia
As we gather in Lindall for this Forum, we are now well within the Harvest Moon. In times past, our elders recognized this moon by preparing for the winter ahead. It was the time when the focus of the people turned to survival and preparation. Now as we approach the Falling Leaf Moon, our efforts to prepare must increase twofold.
The Harvest Moon tells us it is time to gather up our resources and prepare for the long winter months. The air around us cools even more, and the evergreen trees around us are beginning to be the only green we see. The world around us is trying to warn us of the danger which approaches. The time to gather around the fire with friends and companions is nigh. Unity is necessary through these hard times which approach us.
For while one stick can be broken, a bundle is much more difficult to break apart. May we face the cold of winter together.

Letters to the Editor:

The Puzzle of Reading or (Why High-Orcs Find it so Hard to Learn to Read)
Reading to me used to seem so strange and useless. It still seems strange but not so useless now. How can things I hear be caught and put down like this? Maybe it is some strange magic that captures the sound from the air and puts it in a cage on the page. Has anyone asked the sound if it likes being caught? I was a slave once and in a cage and I know I didn't like it much at all.
So reading is strange, but useful. With it I can send talking to people far away and they can talk back to me from far away too. Like recently I sent letters to my friends while I was away from the gathering. See how useful that was? And I learned that if I want to remember something for a long time I can write it down and read it later, so I can save it forever. I have been reading lots of things like history and maps. I think for the first time I know where I am!
Reading for High-orcs is rather frustrating. You see, where we come from things are very straight forward. In reading things are strange and sneaky. You see these letters that we use, they change their mind in how they want to sound all the time. Like T and H. Alone they are one thing and together they are something else called THhhhhhhh. Why can't their just me a new letter for this Thhhhhhhh sound? The same goes for Shhhhhh and CHHhhh. And then SHhhhh comes up again in a word like motion. I think motion should be spelled like Moshin then. But no! It is done with this whole TI thing. The letter Y is just evil and should be killed. It is a necromancer. Kill Y if you see it.
So anyway. Reading is really confusing to me. It took a long time to learn it but now I can do things like send letters and read books. I think that in the long run reading books will help me smash my enemies better. That or I can hit them with heavy books.
Now you know that reading is not so stupid. So if you can't read and you read this article here you should go out and learn to read. It makes you smarter and smarter means you live longer and can learn more so you get smarter so you live longer so you learn more. Get it?
