Goblin King Slagwort Slain!

(TIMES STAFF) On the eve of the September Forum in Lindall, goblin representatives of "King" Slagwort approached the citizens of Lindall, proclaiming to be carrying demands from the goblin leader. Citizens may remember that Slagwort was one of the leaders of the Shargroar tribe of goblins who warred with the people of Dardanos in 502. After the death of Shargroar it was believed that the tribe had scattered. Now reappearing, the goblins demanded the immediate surrender of Lindall. Once refused, the goblins led an attack against the town. The battle was fierce, as nearly all the goblins attacking proved to be skilled in magic or alchemy in addition to martial combat. After a pitched battle, the goblins were routed.
Later that evening an encampment of the goblins was discovered by members of the Azure Fog, who overheard the goblins complaining about their loss in capturing Lindall, and thus being forced to join with the Kurzinnor. It would later be discovered that Kurzinnor forces have been absorbing, or destroying, all monster races they encounter in Caldarian lands. In the possession of the goblins were also orders from Slagwort to unleash their “secret weapon” upon Lindall.
It would turn out that the "secret weapon" was the ability of the goblins to breed and control several types of slime creatures that were unleashed upon the town, with many citizens nearly engulfed inside of the monsters. Fortunately several of the pits of ooze used to breed these creatures were discovered by local adventurers throughout the gathering and were destroyed.
On the day following the Forum, the goblins again launched a last and devastating offensive against Lindall. Supported by a few remaining slime creatures and several powerful spell casters, the goblins waged a pitched battle that went back and forth for nearly an hour. During the fight Slagwort himself appeared and ordered his forces to bring him the head of Squire Gormegil (the squire was captured in combat nearly a year ago by Slagwort and sold into slavery). Many of the powerful warriors in town chased the goblin king away from the battle, eventually Squire Gormegil was able to slay the monster…but not before almost being captured within a circle of power spell by the goblin leader.
The battle was eventually won by the brave citizens of Lindall, but not without a high cost. The Order of Light reported eleven resurrections as a result of the fight, including those of both squires present, Gormegil and Aara. As the warriors collected themselves and dealt with the pain of so many losses, the permanently dead bodies of many of the goblins reappeared throughout the battlefield. Among the dead goblins lay the permanently dead body of Slagwort himself; the discovery brought a great cheer from the citizens as Squire Gormegil taunted the body of his defeated foe.
The permanent death of Slagwort, along with the death of Shargrór himself, bodes well for the final destruction of the Shargroar tribe.

A Different Perspective: Slagwort Goblins Attempt Negotiations? Somewhat...

By Riddick Dale, Times Reporter
On the Friday night of our last gathering a pair of goblins entered Lindall under a white flag of truce. They specifically requested to speak with the "red and white men." It was safely assumed that they were referring to the local nobility. As neither Sir Nathan Nor his squires were available, I spoke with the goblins for a brief period of time, in an attempt to show them that they were not being ignored. After a short period of time Sir Nathan arrived and they began to provide him with information.
They began by stating that they were emissaries of Slagwort, and that they carried an important message from him. Apparently Slagwort did not want to join the Kurzinnor, and that Lindall and its adventurers should join forces with him to defeat them. While this idea all by itself may not seem totally preposterous, his further requests will more than make up for it. Slagwort demanded that Sir Nathan surrenders Lindall, to him, grovel before him, and make Necromancy legal. Obviously, Sir Nathan refused the demands, and ordered the goblins to deliver his response to Slagwort.
As a result, Slagwort brought many of his most powerful warriors to attack the city of Lindall on the Sunday of our last gathering. This was a ferocious battle, and in the end many of the adventurers of Lindall were forced to resurrect. Fortunately, their lives were not given in vain, as Slagwort died his permanent death.

Local Populace Celebrates Destruction of "Chaos Rock"

(TIMES STAFF) For nearly a year the people of Dardanos and the surrounding baronies have been plagued by monstrous insects, animals, and even plants, many of which had developed terrible and often chaotic abilities. The proliferation of these creatures had caused significant decline in food production and several unfortunate deaths among the populace. Over the past months, the growth of these new monsters had become so great, that their hides were used to count towards the Warrior’s Vigil hunt, as an incentive to do away with the threat.
The adventurers of Lindall had discovered the cause of these mutated creatures nearly a year ago, in the form of a glowing blue rock that radiated necromantic energy. At that time no means to destroy the rock could be found, so former Knight Lydia Menathenia, with help from members of the Azure Fog, hid the rock until it could be destroyed. Sadly, sometime between it being hidden and the means to destroy it were found, the rock had gone missing.
Through the efforts of Lindall’s master alchemists Issalura and Vree the means of destruction for the rock was discovered after a year of hard work. Meanwhile, local adventurers had discovered that a celestial wizard who had been driven mad, presumably by its chaotic nature, had recovered the rock. The people of Lindall relentlessly followed the trail of the mage throughout the gathering of the September Forum.
The opportunity to do away with the rock presented itself just after the baronial Forum when the mage who had taken the rock was seen running through the edge of town being chased by hundreds of creatures. Calling for an hour of peace, the mage cast a circle of power while the tainted creatures beset the town. While the fighting was fierce and the battle raged for close to a full hour, the warriors easily won the day without any losses. Throughout the battle the mage ranted from within the circle of power. When the spell finally expired the warriors incapacitated him, and Issalura provided the means to destroy the rock to Red Cloud, a member of visiting adventuring group the Black Forest. With a large wave of chaotic energy that left many observers drained and nauseous, the rock was shattered into hundreds of inert pieces.
Citizens throughout Dardanos are celebrating the destruction of the rock and the death of the creatures it affected. In talking to Lindall Times reporters, one local farmer stated, "For the past year I was afraid to go walking through my fields and that ain’t right. Praise them alchemy ladies in town, they’re all right." Many villages throughout the barony have held celebrations in the name of the adventurers for restoring some sense of normality to their farmlands.

Lord Jaden Stripped of Title

(TIMES STAFF) During the September Forum, a Paladin from the Order of the Golden, Sir Donavan Eralabus, addressed the assembled citizens of Lindall. With little ceremony the Knight announced that the Order had declared that Lord Jaden Orilious was to be stripped of his title after the citizens of Dardanos had made known their concerns about his ability to serve as nobility. The Knight made known his displeasure at acting out his task, and then offered Jaden the chance to become his squire. Jaden refused the offer and has since stated his intention to return to service in the Royal Army.
Addressing the citizens, Sir Donavan challenged those assembled to do better in serving the people of Caldaria if they believed that Jaden had failed them. Squires Gormegil and Aara were given the warning that their actions were always under the scrutiny of the Order, and they were tasked to prove their ability to serve Caldaria as Knights.

Order of Light Member Executed for Necromancy!

(TIMES STAFF) On the day of the September Forum Goodman Drake of the Lindall Order of Light and the Azure Fog was found guilty for the casting of Necromancy while under the effects of a berserk poison. Sir Nathan conducted a public execution after reminding citizens that such poisons would only have a person use necromancy if it were in their nature to do so anyway. By the rules of the Order of Light, Drake was removed from membership by Master Li Kenji for the casting of necromancy.

A Different Perspective: A Trial in Town

By Riddick Dale, Times Reporter
On the Saturday of our last gathering the adventurers of Lindall were shocked by the news of a horrible crime. After a brief trial, the adventurer Drake was convicted and executed for the crime of Necromancy. No defense was given, as part of the evidence against him was his own admission of guilt. His resurrection commenced as Forum was being convened. Despite the fact that his resurrection was completed before Forum was officially called to Order, he and several other Members' of The Azure F.O.G. were not present. Based on the official statements made my Squire Gormegil Sunderdragon, Drake was asked to take his own life as a demonstration of the fact that the Azure F.O.G. will not tolerate Necromancy.
In terms of the legality of the matter, Drake has paid for his crimes. Typically this means that, unless specifically ordered to do so, the general population is not to hunt him down for his past actions. This cannot, however, eliminate the truth, regardless of his legal right to a second chance. It is the opinion of this writer that people should be careful in their dealings with this man. He has revealed a portion of his true nature in these recent weeks, and to remain safe we must remain ever more vigilant.

Undead Attack Heralds Return of Necromancer?

(TIMES STAFF) Just after the Harvest Ball, Lindall came under the attack of undead forces. The undead were seen attempting to drag away the bodies of fallen warriors, leading many to question if the necromancer Chessel who escaped from the baronial prison this past spring created them. Citizens may remember that Chessel was captured after the adventurers of Lindall successfully raided the town of Hedgewood.
In the midst of the battle squire Aara, and citizens Xith and Starr were dragged away by the undead forces. All three successfully resurrected.

Plague?!

(TIMES STAFF) Rumors throughout Caldaria have been spreading about the return of the Plague that devastated the Kingdom for years. Stories from the front lines of the renewed conflict with the Kurzinnor report encounters with diseased monsters that have caused outbreaks of illness amongst the troops. Throughout the Kingdom people are reporting discoveries of diseased animal carcasses, and outbreaks of illness reminiscent of the early days of the Plague.
Representatives of the Order of Light have urged Caldarians to report occurrences of illness to their local Orders, but have not commented on the meaning of these rumors at this time. Representatives for the Royal Army have not commented on the rumors of encounters with diseased monsters.

Magics Failing?

(TIMES STAFF) Bizarre changes in the flow of magics have alerted experts from both the Royal Arcanum and Order of Light over the past weeks. Celestial mages have reported the inability to use many of their spells; most disturbing of which being Ward spells. Earth mages have reported the disappearance of Chaos magic from their abilities. Rumors persist of difficulties in performing resurrections in some earth circles throughout Stephanos.
The failure for Wards to function has caused fear about a potential rise in criminal activity throughout the Kingdom. Local militia and town watch forces have been mobilized throughout Caldaria to maintain the law and order.
Despite the concerns among mages as to the cause of the failure of several spells, many races are celebrating the changes. In particular, the disappearance of Chaos magic has been hailed throughout many circles in the Kingdom, especially among the Ansconi and High Ogre populations. Sources within the Royal Army have reported that High Ogre soldiers have abandoned their posts in celebration, referring to the changes in magic as "The Great Victory." Many of the Biata citizens of the kingdom have been overheard celebrating the changes as well, commenting with joy on the failure of so many celestial spells. Regardless of individual opinions on these sudden changes, citizens with any information about these, or any new, changes in magic are to immediately report them to their local Royal Arcanum hall by order of the Duke. A similar order is expected to be followed soon by the Crown.

Caldaria Prepares for Hard Winter

(TIMES STAFF) As Candle Dark approaches and the harvest has begun in full, representatives of the Royal Household have issued forth their report that kingdom-wide food production will just barely hold the population throughout the winter. Reasons attributed to the potential food shortage include the renewed war with the Kurzinnor and the tainted plants and animals slowing food production throughout the Duchy of Stephanos. Royal authorities have urged the Baronial Households to ration food stores carefully to ensure the population remains fed throughout the winter.

News from the Order of Light

By Li Kenji, Master of Light
The Order of Light wishes to congratulate Jin Mei on her promotion to Savant of the Order. Her research efforts have helped further the knowledge of the Order, and her skills as a healer also continue to grow. We greet her with much welcome.
It is with deep disappointment that the Order of Light releases Drake from his obligations and associations as an Initiate of the Order. We wish him wisdom and peace on his future path.
A charity auction for dates to the recent Harvest Ball raised over 20 gold to benefit those in need throughout Lindall. I personally wish to thank all those who let themselves be auctioned off, as well as those generous patrons who donated to the cause. The evening was most enjoyable and educational. I extend special thanks to Kostantinos, Paolo, and Star.
The people of and travelers to Lindall should be aware that new cases of the Plague have been confirmed in the town. Two deaths, at least one that was permanent, and one case of passing symptoms occurred after the Harvest Ball. Any other cases should be immediately reported to the Order of Light. As yet no cure has been found, so the advice of the Order remains to make the ill as comfortable and calm as possible until the symptoms pass, however that may occur.
I wish now to address the reports that Resurrections are no longer being successful. This is by no means the full truth. Members of the Order of Light have noted two unsuccessful Resurrections of unknown cause, and difficulty in grasping other spirits over the past few weeks. However, the majority of Resurrections have been behaving as we expect. Formal letters have been delivered to all permanent earth circles as far as Theronis, Solana, and Vellarens to see if this is a local occurrence or more widespread. We should always be careful to avoid dying, yet this may now be added incentive to be even more mindful. If anyone has concerns or questions, please come speak to me at the Order of Light. While unusual, we would all do well to remain calm and not unnecessarily concerned until more information is gathered. All knowledge will be submitted to the Lindall Times as it is learned.
Finally, it has been noticed in the past few days by some, if not all, Earth casters that Chaos magics no longer seem to be present when we meditate each evening. For those unfamiliar with Earth magic, the burden for a student of these arts is that Earth magic and Chaos magic cannot be divorced from one another despite the revulsion our spirits hopefully hold toward such vileness. Yet the past few evenings the pureness of the Earth has been present in our studies without the taint of Chaos. The freedom is an unknown delight. However, I would advise caution in this joy. Never before have I heard of this happening though scholars have spent Ages in research trying to accomplish this very thing. Any insights would be welcomed.
A good fortune may forebode a bad luck, which may in turn disguise a good fortune.

Yet Another Savant

By Riddick Dale, Times Reporter
The Lindall Order of Light has been very busy as of late. The recent increase in aggressive activity by the Kurzinnor, and most recently the Slagwort goblin tribe, has taxed their resources and beaten upon their spirits. Recently Master Li Kenji made the difficult decision to promote Marra Page to the position of Savant within the Order. After a brief period of time with one lone Savant within the walls of the Order, yet another promotion has been completed. The Lindall Order of Light is now blessed to have Jin Mei as their newest Savant. She has shown her dedication to the Order since the day she has joined and is most deserving of this honor. Master Kenji has made an excellent decision in promoting these two women. The town of Lindall can expect great things from them. I had promised in my last article on this topic that I would begin to publish interviews with the new Savant and Master Kenji. However, due to their busy schedules, this has not been possible yet. You can, however, expect that as the days grow shorter I will most certainly be spending time talking with the three of them. The resulting articles will follow soon after.

Warning Report

By Squire Aara, Guest Writer
Since Squire Gnazz has temporarily left the area, he has asked that I take over this report.
Recently, we resolved the problem of the Magic Rock that was plaguing our lands with mutant creatures. Since this has been resolved we should no longer be on the look out for such creatures.
Also we seem to have permanently killed Slagwort and most of his tribe, though the remainder that survived may have joined with the Kurzinnor as they threatened. Meaning that the Kurzinnor, the Shadow beasts and the remaining members of the Slagwort tribe may all be allies. Please warn the nobility, the squires or the town watch if you encounter any of the above forces.
The plague seems to have resurfaced in a few areas surrounding Lindall, most adventurers reported small animals to be the only victims so far. Please be wary of those around you that may exhibit symptoms of the plague.
It also seems that there are quite a few undead who are being controlled by a member of a citizen race, they are extremely powerful and should be avoided by individuals or small groups.
